Function of CITRUS UNSHIU PEEL EXTRACT:
A Citrus Unshiu is a small seedless member of the citrus family. Also known as Satsuma Mandarins, Citrus Unshiu are popular in Asia where their dried peel is used as an ingredient in many skincare products. Although the satsuma is named after a province in Japan, the trees are actually native to China.

Mode of Action
B16 melanoma cells are melanin pigment producing cells. The effect of Citrus Unshiu on melanin production was examined using B16 melanoma cells. Production of melanin pigment was significantly inhibited in culture cells supplemented with Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract.
In an article in the January 2010 issue of "Food and Chemical Toxicology," the scientists reported that the peel extracts from all citrus species showed greater antioxidant properties than the extracts from their respective juices. Researchers suggested using the whole peel extract instead of isolating individual antioxidants, because the former approach takes advantage of additive and synergistic effects of different phenolics, flavonoids, carotenoids and reducing sugars present in the samples.
