- Skin emollient, healing and hydration agent
Rose water is the aqueous solution of the distillate of rose petals. Since ancient times, this legendary flower has been highly prized for its source of perfume, medicinal use and nutritional properties.
A rose water ointment is occasionally used as an emollient, and rose water is an effective and well tested cosmeceutical ingredient.
Rose water helps in healing wounds and sunburns caused on all skin types. It helps in the purification and cleansing of normal skin. On oily skin it balances the oil contents and tones the skin. Sensitive skin is cooled and soothed by the application of rose water. It also helps to reduce inflammations and increases blood supply.
Studies on this ingredient have shown direct improvements in keratinocyte differentiation.
Keratinocytes provide a physical barrier to our bodies and control skin features such as moisturization, wrinkles and pigmentation. Keratinocyte differentiation is disturbed in several skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Rose water has been used as a healing agent in almost all diseases of skin that produce excessive scaling since it decreases excess keratinocyte proliferation.
When followed by genetic expression of proteins, the application of rose water restores keratinocyte levels towards normal in hyper proliferating skin and upregulated them in hypoproliferative skin suggesting a “cellular thermostat” function.
The moisturizing effects of Rose Water also enhance skin tone and smoothness.
