The Benefits of Rose Extract in Skincare

Roses are an iconic symbol of beauty and love. They are stunning to look at and their aroma is absolutely intoxicating. Roses also have a long history of therapeutic benefits. Every inch of the plant is utilized. Its essence is very fragrant and can help to calm the nerves. Its extract also provides astringent and soothing benefits for the skin. Rose essential oil is extracted by steam distillation and is chemically composed of hundreds of components including citronellol, ethanol and farnesol among many others. Damascus Roses are used most prominently because of their fragrance and they are considered to have the highest oil content.

When the flower is past maturity and the petals have fallen off, what remains is the rose hips. Rose hips themselves are a good source of anti-aging and antioxidant Vitamins A, C, D, and E, and essential fatty acids. These components are well known for reducing fine lines, plumping the skin, and helping to stimulate collagen production.

The loss of these proteins is integral to wrinkle formation and loss of skin elasticity.
