We see many individuals treating wrinkles on their face while ignoring other areas of their body, like their neck. Skin on the neck ages much like the skin on your face, so why would you not want to incorporate an anti aging regimen for your neck as well as your face?
Different Types of Neck “Aging”
Age Spots – these are caused by excessive exposure to the sun. While many people will slather sunscreen all over their face and wear a visor or hat to protect their face, they will often ignore the neck area, leaving it open for the development of age spots. (We discussed age spots in detail with yesterday’s post. If you would like to learn more about age spots, you can read the post by clicking here).
Horizontal Wrinkling – over time, natural aging can case the breakdown of elastin and the diminishing of collagen. These two properties create the “snap back” ability of the skin. When this breaks down, the skin loses that ability and begins to wrinkle.
Vertical Wrinkles – there are generally two causes for vertical wrinkling: excessive sun and/or position exposure. For instance, someone that works on a computer and maintains the same neck position all the time. Or, lying in the same position night after night while sleeping.
Preventing and Treating Neck Wrinkles
Sun Protection – we have covered this on other posts, but cannot stress enough the need for proper SPF in your sunscreen and/or skin care products. If you are going to be out in the sun for longer periods, use a waterproof SPF as well as a higher rated one. SPF 100 may not actually be more effective than a SPF 50, but the product is much thicker and is more likely to stay on longer. Regardless, reapply as needed to keep your skin protected.
Lifestyle – this includes your diet as well as things that affect you. There is nothing good that comes from stress, so learn to eliminate and manage it in your life. Food items that you eat also play a large role in overall skin health. This is also something we covered in the age spots post, so click here if you would like to learn more about that.
Skin Care Products – if you are not already using rejuvenating and hydrating products, it is time to introduce them to your daily skin care routine. Products we offer that you may want to consider are the All Natural Ceramide Infused Moisturizer and the Concentrated Restorative Skin Serum.
